Should I Watch Lycoris Recoil?

An anime that has a seemingly, potentially controversial topic for a story, yet managed to create an extremely enjoyable watching experience.

The Plot

In Lycoris Recoil the city has this group of orphan girls who were raised to be sort of like the city's assassins. They would kill criminals before they even get the chance to act their crimes.

The execution of this story though, was really good. It's got an interesting comedy, slice of life vibe with a touch of cool combat scenes. I did find the idea potentially controversial perhaps, but it sure was made very enjoyable.

Getting towards the middle, Lycoris Recoil started to have slightly more combat scenes being shown. The twist in the middle was, I would say, semi decent; interesting, but wasn't the most mindblowing.

And just so you know, there were also some hints of yaoi and yuri...

The action scenes greatly ramped up towards the end of Lycoris Recoil, and it was very cool. This anime introduced some really interesting conflicts, changing the atmosphere towards a more serious, perhaps intense, story vibe. It was a great ramp up, in my opinion.

The overall pacing was consistent, and that is yet another amazing aspect.

And of course, it wouldn't be complete without an extremely unexpected ending. The ending was unexpected, weird, and I enjoyed all of it.

The Audio and Visuals

Lycoris Recoil's art was superb. Colourful and a lot of details in the background environments. Character design was nice, too. Lots of kawaii bishoujos.

Unfortunately though, I'm perhaps not the most fond of the character voices. Not exactly sure how to best describe why, however. It just didn't feel as fitting as it could have been.

But, that ending song, it was an absolute banger.

Conclusion

Definitely a good anime, and definitely worth watching!
